This hotel is on the outskirts of athlone town. located among a few industrial estates. so the view isn't up to much. you'll need a car or take public transport into the town centre. there are a couple of places to eat near the hotel. a couple of takeaways and a supervalu for you shopping needs. the room was clean and the bed comfortable. but the bathroom was really dark. think of a nightclub bathroom. black tiles, overhead lights, but bizarrely no bright lighting around the gigantic mirror. this made it very difficult to shave. i imagine women would struggle to put on make up in there. but it was clean. there was a tiny tv in the large room. a 23 inch lcd which seemed a bit mean. the selection of channels was fine. all the free to air irish and british channels. my biggest complaint was the wifi. as a business traveller good wifi is crucial. a couple of colleagues who stayed in the same hotel also companied of the poor speeds and difficulty in connecting to it. we mentioned the issue to the staff but they were unable to offer a solution. the breakfast was fine as long you enjoy the traditional irish fry. there weren't too many healthy options. overall the hotel was ok if you just want a place to sleep. but there other hotels in athlone that are located in the centre of town, have excellent wifi and are much cheaper and of equal quality. i won't be staying in the athlone springs again.
