We chose to stay at desenzano as we were travelling by train from england via zurich to lake garda. also we wanted to explore the lake by boat so we got an idea about the different places and areas that we might want to stay on another visit. desenzano and hotel bonotto proved to be ideal. the hotel was centrally located. it was only a few minutes walk from the harbour, it was close to a number of restuarants. there was a view of the lake from both the bedroom and the 'rooftop' restaurant. the hotel was clean, with modern decor, well maintained. the staff were helpful. the price was cheaper than others we looked at which were not in as good a location for the type of holiday we wanted, which was a non-beach holiday. altogether a good experience.
