October break

Overall a very convenient location and decor of hotel good. however spoilt in our room by an uncomfortable bed, a toilet which did not flush properly. the special arrangement with a local health club no longer existed. breakfast was fine and we upgraded to the full english for a small extra cost, which in fact they waived. very central and a good location for museums and for the underground which takes you everywhere for a modest cost per day.

Not what i expected.....

My colleague and i had booked 2 double rooms through hotelsclick.com. on arrival we were greeted by a receptionist whose english was ok, at best (she did have a friendly face though). however, despite appearing friendly she was attending to another guest and took quite a while to acknowledge us standing there. when, eventually, she did attend to us we were promptly checked in and given the cards to our rooms. i spent precisely 15 seconds in mine before i turned around and returned to reception to ask to be moved to a different room. my colleague arrived, with the same request, approximately 30 seconds later. our 'double' rooms were two single beds pushed together and both rooms were cold and had extremely strong odours of cigarette smoke. extremely strong! it was as if somebody had smoked in there 10 minutes earlier and had opened a window for 5 minutes to get rid of the smell. the receptionist referred us to a "manageress" who very quickly changed our rooms to "deluxe" doubles at no extra cost. mine had a cracked window (a minor point)but at least it smelt clean. the manageress was the only good thing about our stay, at least she was helpful and friendly. if you want a bed for the night close to the natural history museum it was ideally located. 4****? it "ticks all the boxes", just enough i would suggest, to get through.
