Tired, boring, location being its saving grace
Starting with the positives, this hotel is excellently situated, and at the £233 inclusive of vat and (rather good) english breakfast, booked through hotelsclick.com, it was rather good value for money. the disadvantages are that this hotel is looking way too tired, pillows do your neck no favours, beds now bit old and rather soft, the bathrooms are shabby, to say the least, actually quite shockingly so for a 5 star establishment. the airconditioning is the old fashioned water type, located on the room's floor near the window, so with the need for heating in december, it is very loud (well, i couldn't sleep with it on), but even switching it off, there is still running water type sound one can hear. the service is nowhere near 5star that it is supposed to be, one could say that a certain concierge made it sound like he was doing one a favour by just being there, and the request was nothing out of ordinary - a minicab/taxi to the airport. the capital restaurant was another super disappointment, with the new chef's menu kicking in for the first time that evening, and the pricing advertised on the net no longer applying, with choices being a 5 course degustation or just plain a la carte (with 5th dish not being served till 11.30pm at dinner that started at 1930) , and the service on 9/12/09 absolutely appaling, resembling something out of fawlty towers (even the reception manager apologising for it the following day, stating that most people "noticed it" did not make it any better!), but that is another story.
