This is my 2nd stay at hotel nouvel. first time in december 2006 and now in may 2012 and i immediately noticed lots of improvements. fortunately, they kept the lovely art deco style frontage and lobby. unfortunately, they didn't enlarge the front desk at all so that if more than one person is checking in or out or just getting information at the desk, then the queue invades the space of those people using the lift so that getting in or out of the lift becomes tricky! however, the rooms have been substantially upgraded as have the bathrooms and for the price paid, i think they are excellent value for money. we found it very peaceful and quiet despite staying over the weekend nights and it simply can't be beaten for location. within 2 minutes you can be on la rambla or in placa de catalunya and from there you can get anywhere in the city. the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. you can hire a self-programming room safe for just €1.50 per night which is great for keeping your passport and valuables safe because sadly barcelona does have a poor reputation for pickpockets.
