A tranquil haven

from the end room at the top floor ,west end of the hotel,overlooking the pool we spent a lovely part of our holiday within the hotel grounds. travelling inland to the omalos playeau and agias lake was easy frm here,and the island main road was 3 minutes away from the hotel for easy journeys to chania and beyond. the hotel itself was clean,quiet and well-presented.the gronds created an air of spaciousness,as did the main pool which we swam in daily.we didn't use the shallow pool. the dining room was never full,though close to it a couple of times in the evenings.there were never any queues developing at the buffets,nd frequently you were on your own at the counters.meals,both breakfast and evening meal were well-prepared,beautifully fresh food.the choice was excellent too.my wife is vegetarian and se was taken aback at the available choices,which she has never experienced in any hotel before in any country we,ve been to(and there are plenty of them).fresh fruit,dried fruit,and cooked breakfasts of a great variety along with the cakes,cold meats and cheeses farvoures by continental europeans were all available at breakfast.in the evening a large range of salads and cooked meals for all tastes were heated to perfection.the down side is ,if you get tea don't ask the waiter to bring hot water-it is tepid at best,an makesquite undrinkable tea.there is a large urn with boiling water in it and tea bags next to it.you have to get everything yourself,but the result is much better. we were travelling a lot during the day,so didn't look at the shore side of the hotel,but did walk down a side-street to the beach which was busy but peaceful and clean-looking. the room,bathroom and balcony were spacious enough,looked well-cleaned and presentable.the only down side was though not yet bad the doors in the rooms and some fittings were starting to show signs of wear and in need of attention,but this is a very minor flaw. the cocktails looked a little pricey(my wife tried some),but were huge.i thought(though admittedly not a liker of cocktails)a smaller quantity and associated price-drop,along with a more decorative glass(they were served in a huge shapeless tumbler)would have made them more attractive.
