Old style hotel in the heart of rome

Great location and charm of old style, traditional hotel. one has to expect rooms being rather small and bathrooms remembering better times but all this is compensated by an ambience.

Locarno

We booked as we wanted something quirky and specific to rome but this was very disappointing. we knew in advance the rooms would be small so this didnt worry us. however, the room was very dingy, with very old dark red paint and several holes in the walls in places. it also smelt very heavily of stale smoke. the bed was smaller than a standard double and sagged in the middle. the bed cover had holes in and looked like it had seen better days but not the inside of a washing machine for some time. the communal areas were better - there is a lovely courtyard which is popular with locals and guests in the evening when it is very pretty. i would recommend going for a drink and staying elsewhere. reception are quite dismissive and treat you very much as if you are just passing through.

Rome in july 2008

I took my mum and two daughters (13 and 16) to rome for 4 nights staying in the hotel locarno. initially we booked into a family room which was a big mistake, the hotel clearly didn't cater for such parties and our room had two camp beds pushed into a normal sized double room. having complained we were allocated two twin rooms which were charming. the breakfasts were very good served on the hotel's lovely courtyard. staff were exceptional helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the hotel is superbly located for st peter's, trevi fountain, spanish steps, and the pantheon all within 20 minutes walk.
