Recent stay at hyatt ziva cancun

Since we booked (and paid) in advance, close to our planned departure date we became aware that the weather for the week was going to be dismal. we attempted to reschedule our visit, but were denied the opportunity to do so. we had to travel then or forfeit $3,000+. we were upgraded to the turquoise tower on our arrival. the room was spacious and had a jacuzzi tub on the balcony of our corner room. the room had a wonderful view. unfortunately, the weather was chilly and rainy with extremely windy conditions. as a result, we spent the majority of our stay in our room and on our balcony. all those we observed braving the conditions at the pools and/or beach areas were wrapped up in the resort’s beach towels! for the most part, the food was mediocre to bad (the bad was the inroom dining). we had a decidedly unacceptable experience at the french restaurant which was acknowledged by the restaurant manager who invited us to return another evening. he set up a wonderful “special menu” meal which was truly wonderful and we really appreciated his efforts. since we had to spend so much time in our room, we used room service frequently. it was pretty frustrating. for instance, when we ordered tea service, we received a pot of hot water but no tea bags nor cups. another time, we did not receive the requested cream nor milk. all the food was delivered lukewarm or cold. a bowl of soup was lukewarm tasteless chicken broth with a handful of raw cauliflower/carrots. both our butlers (day/evening) were pleasant to deal with, but were hampered by the lack of execution by the support staff. we put in a standing order for coffee service at 8:30 each morning and it was only delivered one morning before being dropped. we had to complain again! i did have a wonderful hot stone massage at the hotel spa, but we were both disappointed in the water area of the spa. the facilities were very substandard when compared to those at the next door resort (fiesta americana grand coral) where we have stayed a number of times. in the past 15 years, we have enjoyed 7+ trips to the cancun/riviera maya area at all times of the year. this was a very unpleasant and disappointing experience.
