Ugly outside, amazing inside
We’ve stayed at the penta hotel many times. as you enter light swirls around the reception and bar area generated by the glitter ball hung over the reception desk. to the left the bar is furnished with comfortable cow-hide sofas, beyond that a full size snooker table etc awaits use. there’s free wifi throughout the hotel but only in half-hour increments, and then you’ve got to sign in again. there are 24 hour paid-for options. check in was simple with the supplied voucher, and a swipe of my credit card enabled me to charge things to my room. on entering the lift we commented how hot it was, but thankfully this did not continue down the corridor or into our room. this is important to note because the street outside is so noisy you cannot open the window for any fresh air. the air-conditioning switch on the wall is not for air-conditioning – it just looks like it but is only for heating or ambient air. this can be a problem as the rooms can be too hot. the first impression is of a modern funky room with a truly massive mega-king-sized bed with individual duvets. next to it the shower room includes a delightful rain shower and very good toiletries. back in the bedroom: there’s a (hidden) wall panel for connecting all sorts of electronics and a large non-hd tv. this includes a selection or reasonable free ‘pay-tv’ channels. rummaging round the drawers reveals a kettle and tea and coffee supplies. it’s so hidden i wonder if everyone finds it! breakfast next morning is a selection of fruit, pastries, yoghurts, and cooked items – friend eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, and so on. there’s a great coffee machine too serving good freshly ground coffee. check-out was easy with a voucher given us to use at the car park to get a reduced rate. all in all we like it here.
