Nice hotel. debatable 5*...more like 4.

Arrived at hotel at 5pm to be told our room wasn't ready yet. after a long haul flight, it's the last thing you want to hear! i understand it was new year and very busy but this should have been taken into account. as we were leaving, i overheard another couple in the same scenario. as a good will gesture we were given a late check-out (2pm), but only on request from ourselves, else i question if anything at all would've been compensated. other than the bad start, overall the service was good. not much in the way of personal service & the hotel seemed more like a conveyor belt of people just coming and going with not much in between. we have stayed in other hotels in bangkok at half the price (namely anantara - 4*) and we felt far more welcomed and hotel felt more luxurious even though a lesser star grading. drinks and food generally overpriced for bangkok. 280thb for a cup of filter coffee. i understand it is 5* but unless it feels like 5* there's no excuse to have excessive prices. on leaving the hotel, the bell boys didn't even make us aware that our transfer had been waiting for 30 minutes even though we had been given our luggage and they had our name, we quite quite easily could've missed our flight because of this. would i stay again? yes, if there was a deal on. at the price i paid for 1 night, no, i'd look for a 4* of better standard.
