Old world charm
This place is not like any other hotel you will have stayed in ! the oldest continuously-inhabited wooden structure in the world, the layout of the hotel is amazing - from the 400yard long corridors to the indoor pool and spa, it is vastly different from the holiday inns, marriotts, and other 'chain' hotels that seem to have taken over the world. rooms are a good size, but ours was showing its age slightly and the ongoing refurbishment program will only improve things. but all was basically clean, and everything worked. ask for an ocean view room on the 3rd floor or higher - although you could see the gulf from the hotel grounds when it opened in 1897, later building now obscures the view from most areas. hotel facilities were a bit sparse, although we were travelling out of season. the impending opening of the coffee and soda parlour should improve things dramatically. definitely worth a try for a night or two.
