We decided to return to carmel for the celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary in the same town where we had our honeymoon. this hotel was cited as being the best in town, so i made a reservation thru hotel click and received a rate of $395 per night which seemed very high, but was well below the published rate. overall, we were disappointed and would not return to this property. here are the issues: 1) queen size bed which was not mentioned on the reservation site. we wanted a king 2) no air conditioning. very hot weather and the fan they provided helped, but it was uncomfortable. 3) computer not working when we checked out, so we could not view our invoice. in any case, they sent it to hotel cllick so we could not review it. 4) after we checked out, we got charged another $116 with no explanation. 5) room faced the street, so we had no view, but did get road and people noise. the staff were great and very helpful. the staff were excellent and deserve to be recognized as such, but they were the only first class aspect of this property other than the grounds which are beautiful and very well cared for. my recommendation for others and for ourselves the next time we are in the area is to stay in one of the many good properties in monterey and drive the few minutes it takes to get to carmel for shopping and restaurants.
