Massive disappointment

My wife and i were really looking forward to staying on such an iconic ship, however upon arrival we were instantly disappointed to see a tacky halloween carnival in the hotel carpark - meaning that we had quite a distance to walk from the car to hotel reception. the parking itself is very expensive at $22/night.

the receptionist was welcoming and helpful, however this was quickly followed up by upselling harbour view staterooms at the price of $20. the standard staterooms looked directly onto the aforementioned carnival and giving the level of noise coming from the carnival i feel the harbour view should have been offered free of charge.

during our stay there were also several conferences happening on board including an evening function, and whilst hotel guests are advised that sound does travel throughout the ship and earplugs are provided on request, i do not think the hotel staff take enough action in ensuring that corporate events etc. do not interfere with the hotel guests comfort and a good night's sleep. music from the event was clearly audible in our stateroom and there were people shouting and running up and down the corridors.

a small bottle of water onboard is almost $4, there is an information booklet in the room which costs $5/6 if taken away by the guest and there is a $14.95 service fee for the wi-fi etc. some sections of the ship tour, which is included in the service fee, were closed on during our stay because of the carnival and corporate events.

it is pretty clear that the owners/operators are only interested in making as much money as possible from the queen mary, and less concerned with the customer experience and the upkeep of an iconic ship. the ship itself does not appear to be well maintained, which is such a shame to see!

Queen mary

i was disappointed in the room. it was not what i expected. everything was extra. we left a jacket and sweather on board and i called and they had them waiting for them to call to have them send to my house and i am sure that will cost also
