The royal horseguards

A very capable hotel, stylish, but not quite achieving the splendor of some of the very top hotels of london but not far off and much more sensibly priced. fantastic location for sight seeing, the river as well as shopping. reception staff were fantastic and made you very welcome on arrival. rooms were again superb but not quite the savoy or dorcheter but you are not paying those prices so very good value?

Satisfaction

A return visit to an excellently located hotel. concierge and doorman excelled in assisting us in and out to an urgent appointment - nothing too much trouble. a relaxing oasis in the centre of london. will certainly visit again.

One night theatre break

Very lovely, very large hotel. staff very welcoming. room pleasant, outlook over office buildings being refurbished so not inspiring, but clean and everything that you could want within it. christmas tree in lobby looked beautiful! the only downside was the breakfast which was a bit basic and disappointing. however, hotel very good value for the price paid!

Royal horseguards - in need of ?

I must have had the worst bed in the hotel, so hard, lumpy & bumpy, well past its sell by date! coupled with decor in need of doing, the side of the bath loose with a screw protruding 0.25 inches and a tv remote only partially working. not to be recomended at the price. also note complained to the hotel, not a word of apology!

Great hotel

A stunning hotel in a fantastic location. we received a warm welcome despite being 3 hours early for check in, the room was ready shortly after, and we received a free upgrade as we had a child with us to give us more space. we had a room down one side so no river view, but we had a great view of lord nelson atop his column. the staff were all very professional and friendly and did their utmost to make our stay enjoyable. breakfast in the mornings war tremendous and we were spoilt for choice and my son could not believe his eyes. all in all a great hotel in the very heart of london with fantastic service and excellent staff.

Family break

We visited london for 2 days and stayed at the royal horseguards on a b&b basis. the location is excellent for attractions such as the london eye, buckingham palace, westminster & trafalgar square. the hotel is very nice but i did expect more - maybe because we booked thru hotelsclick site and got a cheaper price, we were stuck at the side of the hotel with no views??? anyway, there were a few minor problems and only some of these were sorted out so in my opinion, it's not a 5* hotel - i have stayed in better 4*.

Royal horseguards

We have stayed at the royal horseguards several times. the staff are friendly and helpful and it's a treat to stay here. room allocation varies from very small typical london hotel rooms to (if you are lucky) a junior suite with river views. breakfast is self service and as you would expect. it gets very busy in the dining room around 10 ish at the weekends so best avoided.

Long weekend

Very busy due to time of the year - kept well informed of station and road closures for new years eve but not forwarned that the road outside the hotel was sealed off on the 1st due to the parade. we were in a smoking room when we requested a non smoking room - however the room was comfortable and pleasant. staff were extremely friendly, helpful and polite.

August 3rd 2007

My husband and i spent one night at this hotel on august 3rd 2007. the hotel is very well located in a quiet street, minutes from embankment tube and charring cross tube stations. you can walk across the jubille bridge and be at the royal festival hall and the london eye in minutes. the public areas of the hotel are well furnished and of a good standard. bar prices were expensive as you expect in a four star lndon totel (£20 for 2 glasses of wine with tip). our hotel room was small but roomy by london standards. the air con worked fine and the bed was comfy. the bathroom was large and well appointed, if in need of refurbishment. we had no view but had not expected one having paid £119 b&b. although our hotelclick confirmation specified continental breakfast the hotel gace us the full breakfast (not sure if they realised!). breakfast was good with a variety of hot and cold dishes on offer. it was self service with the usual dried up fried eggs and a bit of a queue if you stood up at the wrong time! on the whole though excellent food and service for a hotel at this level. we would stay here again because of it's quietness, convenienet location and proximity to all the main attractions for sightseeing and eating/drinking in soho, leicester square, piccdilly, theatreland etc. good value.

Superb location

We stayed in this hotel for three nights in april and had an absolutely lovely time. we had a lovely spacious comfortable room with a big bathroom. both were very clean which is a priority for us. the hotel is in a superb location within easy reach of the millennium eye, the houses of parliament, trafalgar square, covent garden, regent street and and also gives easy access to the underground and buses. the staff were polite and helpful. we would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Short city break

A very comfortable hotel in a very good location. the room was spacious even though we had an extra bed and although the bathroom was on the small side it was perfectly adequate. we did not have a view but at the price we paid we did not expect one. the breakfast was excellent and all staff members we came across were very friendly and helpful.

The first room we were given had a view of the fire escape (nice!!). we knew there was an extra charge to view the river/london eye but asked for another room with a view of the outside which they did provide us with. there was an inconsistency with the rooms; some have heated towel rails in the bathroom, some don't; some have a bidet, some don't. not worth the 5* rating that it currently has but the location is great for the london eye, trafalgar square, downing street, big ben & buckingham palace.

It could be only whitehall

We had the room on the top floor. it felt a little as if we were the young students in the old and rigorous boarding school. the windows were small but with the magnifiscent view of the river and the bridges. the different shapes of the walls created an unique atmosther that made me believe that marry poppins might have poped in and have tea with us. on the spended floors beneth us, one was easily able to detect a constant present of sir windsson churchill, i even took picture with him on the grand floor. one can indeed enjoy the grand hyett in shanghai or the ritz millenium in singapore or elsewhere in similarily fantastic hotels around the world, and have all splendour of the modern world, but the royal horseguads is placed in whithall, therefore st.jaims park and trafalgar squer are just outside the hotel's door, the big bend strikes the hour and wakes you up and nothing can withstand that

Good location

We were meeting up with 10 freinds to go to dancing in the streets which is only a few 100 metres away. the reception and meeting room areas were great , the bar area was a little small considering the size of the hotel. service was very good and the staff pleasant and attentive. only a few minutes walk to trafalgar square and a 10minute walk to covent garden.parking over night in spring gardens was £40 for a 24hr rate- normal rip off west end prices. breakfast was very good but having to wait 15mins in the small bar area was not good and apparently its always like that on a sunday.

Room without a view...

Very disappointed with this hotel. the staff in the restaurant are all very friendly and polite, and the food was very good. however, the single room allocated (843) was small, dark and facing a brick wall !!! paint was peeling off the walls in the bathroom and the bedroom was very difficult to find within the hotel. apparently the hotel was full and therefore was unable to change to a more acceptable room. i would not stay here again and am very glad we did not pay the full rack rate!

A hidden gem

At hotelsclick rate, this hotel is a bargain, and the location tips the balance...from the end of the street you can see st pauls, traf sq, houses of parliment and london eye, with the last 3 within 1/4 mile. if you can get a river view, great, we didnt but the area was so quiet at weekend. only gripe is lack of nearby parking - nearest carpark is 1/4 mile away & £40 for a night. but if you see a show, get ticket valiadated at box office and this is 1/2ed...no charge for parkign in west end on sunday, so i moved car out to park on street sunday morning. in short, we will be back!

A beautiful but noisy view

The hotel was clean and nice although there was a strong smell of cigarettes in the bedroom. the staff on reception were very friendly but at the concierge they were not aware that you could park round the corner overnight on the road and were not terribly helpful. the food was very good but fairly expensive for what you get. there was a lot of traffic noise despite sealed windows! good breakfast selection. i think it is a great hotel for business travellers but i am not sure i would want to go there with younger members of the family.

Fantastic location

Very friendly receptionists. fantastic location right on the thames, ideal for the party boats!london eye, big ben, & downing street are only a few minutes walk. trafalgar square, buckingham palace etc only 10mins. recommend having breakfast early as we had to queue for 20mins. rooms lovely, although the double bed was actually twin beds pushed together & the decor in the bathroom needed some attention.didn't see any families here, mostly couples of all ages.

Royal horseguards hotel

Excellent location, good size and comfortable room, comfortable bed. iron & ironing board, although somewhat shabby, produced on request. thick bathrobes. good breakfast. comfortable and welcoming reception lounge with fire. shower screen inadequate, so bathroom floor and side of bath swamped. no trouser press. lights a bit dim for reading. noisy air-conditioning but can be turned off.
