Furnace creek ranch death valley

We have stayed here 3 times in the past and just love it. however, we were shocked when we arrived this time. we had had no prior warning that there was work being carried out here. in fact the whole place (apart from roms) has been knocked down. thats the saloon/restaurant/gift shop/groceries....all gone. instead there were some make shift buildings. the restaurant is really a canteen with a smal bar area and the groceries are in with the pro golf shop. we arrived after a long drive (we all do) and wanted to get a bottle of beer/wine to have on our balcony/room. sorry they said we do not sell any alcohol ... only in the bar. if you want to buy any you need to go to the village 20miles down the road ( which we passed on the way). i underestand that this will look fantastic when finished, but it doesnt help me now. i was so disapointed with it. it used to be a little gem in the middle of a desert, and im sure it will again when they finish sometime this year, but again it didnt help me. so anyone traveling in the not too distant future please be aware..... also the food in the restaurant is very limited. unofrtunately i am gluten intolerant and do not eat meat ( i do eat fish) but there was nothing for me to eat only salad. even breakfast they had no gluten free bread...so poor.

One night road trip stay

This resort is a little bit dated but is undergoing refurbishment. our room was clean with a lovely view of the golf course and the pool was unreal - nice, relaxing way to end the day!

Not the best service.

I've stayed at the ranch before and enjoyed the experience but was let down on this visit. i had booked a triple room for 3 male adults only to be told there were no triple rooms on the site so two of us could just share a bed. we're friends but not that kinda friends, so the 'manager' at the front desk said she could sort out a pull out bed.....for more money. i tried to explain what the word triple meant but she didn't seem to want to talk to me or in fact be in the job at all. agreed to the pull out bed and took me and my friends for an early dinner in the saloon. i have never felt so judged by a waitress in my life as we had a couple of rounds of beers and were not rowdy or drunk in the slightest only to be given disapproving looks from both her and the bartenders to the point that we actually left rather than be treated that way. on arrival back in the room, no pull out bed had been delivered. on checkout they still wanted the extra cash for the pull out that was never brought in. not a good experience at all and it is down to the attitude of the staff who really don't seem to like their jobs.

Good - but some maintenance needed

Rooms are well above average for park lodges. but the 700 block needs to have the water pipes fixed. knocking each time a tap is turned on/off is annoying in the morning.
