Hotel Harding

3 Stars

Copper Alley, Fishamble Street - D2 - Dublin, Ireland View Map
Area: City Centre South

Harding Hotel in Dublin is one of the best choices to explore the city, literally being within walking distance of Dublin's main attractions, such as the Castle, the Cathedral and the Temple Bar. In addition to that, the hotel is perfectly served by public transport. There is something weird, though. It seems strange presences hung around the Harding Hotel, especially on the 5th floor, mostly ghosts whose presence was felt by some scared guests. Moreover, it is said that in the area where the hotel stands today, in 1761 a woman, one Darkey Kelly, a prostitute working in a brothel was burned there. It seems she committed such horrible crimes up to be considered the first female serial killer in Irish history. The Harding Hotel bar is named after her.

Great place,needs updating

Hotel was in an ideal position for getting around ,breakfast was very nice, the rooms could do with updating, the bathroom was clean ,but only a shower curtain around the shower which did not work great so floor got very wet, might be no harm in letting people know about the bells in the church across the road, don't expect a quiet sleep in, on sunday mornings unless you got good ear plugs!!!!!!

Great location

The harding hotel is a great little hotel that offers a very friendly service. staff are always available to help and are happy to do so. the rooms are basic but generally your not spending too much there. the hotel is just on the edge of temple bar which means everything is in walking distance.

Great hotel but rooms too hot!

This is our second stay in the harding, so was impressed enough first time round to come back. plus points are location- just on the edge of temple bar and the city centre so you can walk just about anywhere in dublin city from the hotel; price is good value for such a location; staff and facilities are good. building is beautiful with a history.

downsides; well now- last stay was on the second floor. room was too warm, but opening the window helped. however this time we were on the 4th floor and with all radiators off and windows wide open the place was still a sauna. bathroom was too hot to close the door- must've been 40degrees+. we slept each night on top of sheets (and this is in october). i understand that this is just the way things are and there is nothing the hotel can do about it short of a rebuild! so if you like to sleep cool this might not be the place for you, or ask for a cooler room (if they exist).

another slight critisism- though just a small point, was the breakfast arrangements. maybe we're just getting spoiled with the current trend for buffet breakfasts where you can eat what you like, but it just feels a little annoying when you choose a cooked breakfast, that you're not allowed to pick up a croissant or scone as this counts as part of the continental selection. the continental brekkie is delicious so i had it for 2 days, but on my 3rd i had cooked and really wanted to have a croissant with my coffee afterwards!

another point about the continental breakfast is that it's a bit limited in selection- no cold meat or cheese at all. just bakery products, yoghurt and cereal. fair enough i suppose- but again- nowadays many places offer more.

so in summary, the harding is a good hotel and good value (for dublin!), but if you dislike being over-heated and sweating through-out your stay enquire about room choice or give a miss.

Long weekend in dublin

Very enjoyable stay at the harding. difficult to imagine this was a 2* budget hotel. the room was extremely clean & the bed comfortable. the bathroom was well fitted & towels changed daily.
breakfast was excellent - i requested mushrooms which were not on the menu & got them.
had dinner on the first night in the resaurant. amazing value.
our friends had a problem with their shower - immediately offered another room.
could not fault the serive & the standards in this hotel.
its location so close to temple bar, yet quiet - another plus.
