Great conference, shame about the lack of elder thoughtfulness

I didn't get to my room until it was 10.30pm, by which time i was desperate to sleep. the screen was on and i had no buttons to switch it off, but room service came and helped by bringing another remote. i couldn't find any soap - which had been put in a cabinet that looked, from my small height, to be just a mirror in the bathroom. i think i need more obvious evidence of toiletries please! the end of the bed was so near the wall that i had to go very carefully to close the curtains as my knees are not good - had i been more elderly, i couldn't not have closed them, as i couldn't have reached them without injury. the lobby needs a ramp for suitcases to be rolled towards the lift, not two banks of stairs.

Kensington close hotel

Great lobby but not much in depth. the car park staff were hard to find and the member of staff i could find was more interested in talking to his colleague than assisting me. the gym is nice but the £8 charge is not so! couple that with a £9.95 per device per day internet charge and the costs start to rocket. the room itself was tiny (standard for london i know) i couldn't stand facing the sink as the gap was to small ( i'm 5'10" and 75kg ) my shoulders also touched both walls either side of the loo.

Disappointing stay at kensington close!

We have just returned from our tenth visit in two years to this hotel. apart from the last two visits everything went smoothly and we rated the hotel very highly. we always asked for a walk- in shower due to my wife's hip problems and this was always provided without extra charge. in june we had to pay an extra £120 for this. it would appear that the rooms are rated differently now and what were small standard rooms are now executive. it doesn't deserve four stars. we've discussed it with the hotel and a manager who was there in june but has since left gave us his personal email address and told us to contact him next time and he would allocate a room with walk-in shower at no extra charge. when we arrived in september we found there was no record of this. we had a copy of his email with us and so were given an "upgrade" at no extra charge. we were told it was an executive room but it was exactly the same as the very first small standard room we had. we cannot understand any of it.

Lovely hotel, great location.

A smart hotel, all facilities used were very good. breakfast is excellent, room was smart but a little small and too warm. air conditioning was too noisy to leave on during the night. window opened but not enough air circulation to have any impact. bar prices are very steep! frustrated by the fact that my keycard never worked and required a return to the reception to rectify, each time i returned! however, i would still return and hope that the next visit might be an improvement?

Excellent location

We have just returned from our eighth stay in two years at this hotel. until this time we have found it perfect in every way. however, on this occasion we were forced to pay over £100 extra at the hotel just to have a room with walk in shower. on all previous occasions this wasn't a problem. the room we were first shown was so small that it would have completely ruined our stay of five nights. it's very difficult to know how they are trying to grade their rooms now but it has changed. it's not at all what you would expect from a four star hotel. on a more positive note, the breakfast is superb and the location is very convenient for buses and tube.

Excellent location

We stay regularly at kensington close hotel and it always lives up to expectations. it is very well located and is close to tube, parks and shops. the beds are comfortable and there's a good choice at breakfast. it's an extremely quiet hotel considering it's so near to kensington high street. we have just returned from another five night break and we were upgraded to a beautiful room because of a shower problem we had. the staff are always pleasant and extremely helpful.

We were looking for an hotel close to olympia for a 3 day visit. the kensington close hotel provides a superb location within a mile and very close to high st kensignton tube station. the situation of the hotel on wright's lane makes it one of the quieter locations away from kensington high street or cromwell road. standard room size was quite small but for the price and location was good.

Arrived at 6pm only to find that all rooms had been allocated to others ...........possibly due to late that day bookings associated with the dr who conferance weekend. this is irrespective of me booking weeks earlier and having received confirmation from internet site. eventually after a lot of hazzel they found a room. at midnight i went to have a shower........................ you,re guessed it.................. shower does not work, no water at all. finally after much more hazzel we were allowed to shower in another room four floors below and went to bed around 2am. the following day when more rooms became available we were transfered to another room. little to no apology received.

Anther enjoyable stay at this hotel

We have just returned from our second stay at kch and found it every bit as enjoyable as the first time which was last month. the location is perfect as it is close to the tube station and shops and also just a few minutes walk from kensington gardens. the room was very clean and breakfast excellent. we asked for a room on the first floor which didn't seem to be a problem. the only drawback was that the room was very dark due to it having a small window in the corner and was overlooked by other parts of the building. we plan to return next month.

Avoid this hotel

It was not a pleasant experience. the standard twin room turned out to be horrible. a broken kettle, a cold water tap that didn't work in the sink, the bathroom tiles had black mould on them and the covers on the beds were not clean. we complained and we were moved to a club executive room which was clearly a much higher standard so made our stay there bearable. the breakfasts were good however, but the general service was very poor. got one newspaper delivered to our room, and there were one or two problems even with the executive room. barely any of the staff spoke english but smiled a lot. our view of this hotel is try and avoid it if possible, it's expensive and not good.

Nice hotel but nothing for free!

The hotel was quite nice although the 'executive' room was tiny for what it cost. plus, anything and everything extra was charged at stupid prices; wifi, room service, use of the pool facilities, keeping a bag after check out - they charge for everything which is frustrating after you pay so much to stay. it was a nice hotel and in a good location but i wouldn't go back - in this day & age, when on a business trip, its rare you will have to pay a tenner per day for wifi!

I stayed in this hotel overnight on the 11th april 2011 as i was attending an event organised by one of our customers. i would consider staying here again, but in a double room next time, as the room was a little on the small side. there was only around 3-4 inches, if that, between the wall and the foot of my bed. however, i can say that the bathroom was very nice & adequate for my overnight stay.

A little disappointing!

After booking we were advised of refurbishment work going on at the hotel. the only inconvenience, we were told, may be a little noise. reception handed us keys but did not advise we could not access our room via the lift to that floor, there was no hotel service guide in the room, the room was very tight - i had to climb over the bed to get to my side as there was not enough room to go round the bed, instructions for use of the safe did not say yo needed an access code. all that said, the hotel is in a great location - next to tube and with dozens of restaurants and shops nearby.

My hen weekend

To begin with they messed up my booking. i had the paper to prove my twin room was booked months ago. it took over 30mins to get me a room. i missed my restaurant booking because of this. they said we have given you a better room because of the mix up. if they meant better as in no drilling like on the first floor & we had a handle on our door ?. it was slightly bigger, but extremely freezing, like a fridge. it had a connecting room also which spooked me, as the hotel reminded of the one from the shining. it had extremely long corridors we where in room 764 the very furthest away on the top floor, while are friends were on the first. breakfast was ok, bar was bad, needs a makeover.

Best birthday

I was most impressed with this hotel after reading some of the reviews... i booked this hotel for a special birthday celebration booking a standard room but up graded to an executive room for £30 extra per night... we arrived to be greeting with a very pleasant man at reception wishing me a very happy birthday... our room was on the second floor in the front of the hotel... the room was very pleasant clean and comfortable, with everything we needed and more... the bathroom was small but good with a small bath and shower which worked very well.. fruit water and sweets were put into the room as it was a celebration....the location of the hotel was excellent just being off kensington high street. we went to the albert hall had a taxi there which was just out side the hotel and we were able to have a pleasant walk back to the hotel which took us about 15minuets...we had breakfast in the hotel which was very good, lots of choice and very efficient staff. we did'nt have our evenings meal at the hotel as there is so much choice of restaurants in the area, we can recommend the thai rest just next to the hotel. the restaurant in the hotel looked very good with a very an excellent menu. overall i can say that i was very concerned about staying at this hotel after reading some of the horrible comments, but i would not hesitate in returning back to this hotel and i certinly would recommend it to my friends..

I stayed at the kensington close hotel with 4 friends for my hen weekend. the hotel was very central and close to shops/underground. the recepton staff were friendly and the room was well priced and adequate. 2 things to watch for: 1. the bar man in the sports bar attached to the hotel will charge you a hefty service charge (which you don't have to pay) my friends bought me a bottle of champagne and were charged £6 on top for him bringing it to the table. 2. the housekeeper on the 5th floor was mean to his cleaning staff...very degrading and shouting and horrid....i complained to management as no one deserves this treatment!

Great stay at kensington close

My friend and i stayed for 3 nights. we have used this hotel before and had a slightly larger room last time. however, the room was very clean and perfect for the time we were in it. quiet at night, great for me as i am a light sleeper! we had cooked breakfasts which were delicious and the staff were very polite and helpful. we will be booking the same for our next trip to london next year. i can also highly recommend the thai restaurant just over the road!

Style vs substance.

The kensington close has that aura of class about it. from the greetings at the door to the decor, it has a feeling of refinement. this is matched by the service, which is unfailingly polite and helpful. the illusion is only shattered by the details. the rooms are spotlessly clean but small. the bed in my room was not particularly comfortable. there's internet access at the hotel, but at a ruinous rate. (apologies to the local residents whose wi-fi i piggybacked but you really ought to secure your routers). it's a nice hotel that could be a stunning hotel with just a little more genuine consideration for guests instead of the appearance of consideration. in the long run, what would a few mattress toppers, free wireless and a better deal on the spa (like a weekly rate) for guests cost them? minor complaints aside; the staff are lovely, the location is perfect, the facilities are sparklingly clean and (other than charging four quid for a guinness) the sports bar is a blessing if you're a chap travelling alone - hello to my new irish friends and, yes, munster were terrific.

Very small rooms

The location is excellent just 5minutes from kensington high street tube. room was very shabby, door looked as if it had been forced open at one time and double lock just spun round, fortunately there was a chain lock which we had to ensure was on as we didn't feel secure. water in bath kept emptying whilst in it so had to place a facecloth in the plughole and then push bathplug into it. safe didn't work so we had to carry our passport and money around with us. room was cleaned every day and the bed linen was very soft and comfortable, as was the bed. would have liked a bedside table at each side instead of the bed being pushed against the wall. i suppose we should have complained but to be honest it was difficult finding anyone who could speak english at the hotel. breakfast was excellent, good choice of everything but because it is obviously a popular tourist hotel it reminded me a bit of queuing for school dinners. we didn't use the leisure facilities as i think charging residents £5 per head per day is unfair and also very costly if one wanted to use it every day.

Kensington close good location and nice hotel

It was an enjoyable stay, the room was comfortable albeit very small. the breakfast was really nice and there is a very good gym and spa, which was one of the reasons why we chose this hotel. it's not free, it costs £5 per day, during your stay, but it's well worth it. the sports bar, where was had a couple of beers was over-priced.

Not impressed

I was under the impression the hotel had been refurbished, not in the case of our room, for the price i paid the room was unacceptable in size and decor, it was very dated and basic, when i complained i was offered an upgrade at an additional price but i was unable to look at the room before committing so i was very unhappy about this. so if your away for a romantic weekend i would advise against staying here as you will be most dissapointed.

Good location, tiny room...!!!

This hotel can boast about it brilliant location but thats where it ends... we booked this hotel as its the best one we could find for its proximity to kensington high street and the fact that it had an english breakfast inc of the price... we found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful but i have never known any double room to be as tiny as the ones here. the overall hygiene of the rooms was just ok as the rooms could do with a lick of paint and new curtains. the breakfast was very disappointing as having stayed in 3 star hotels before i have never come across a hotel that serves very fatty streaky bacon and cold toast...!!!

This hotel was less than 5mins walk from kensington high tube station, so location was great and kensington is lovely. the room was compact but big enough for 2 of us for a few days and reasonable for london rooms. it was contemporary in decor and clean. bathroom was fine too. hotel itself was very big. a lot of the staff didn't seem to speak great english but this didn't really give us any problems. the fitness centre place was great (though there is a £5 supplement to use it but this is for all day and you can come and go). all in all i would recommend staying at this hotel.

Kensington close hotel

I was prepaid to and booked between 5-9th feb but departed on the 8th after a disappointing stay. although the rooms were clean, the shower could not get hot. i mentioned each day to reception and was promised that they would look into it, as many guests had complained. after arriving back late from dinner i wanted a night cap, as did many guests, but as the abr closed at 1pm everyone had to use room service that took 30minutes for each order to be delivered to the lounge! breakfast was very porly organised, i had chosen continental, but it was obvious that they didn't know what they were doing as i must have been asked atleast three times each morning to prove that i had prepaid and show my room card! first at the breakfast room door, then when you get seated for a table and then again when you as a waiter/waitress for tea/coffee! i departed on the 8th as i needed a good hot bath/shower and expressed my concerns about the above but was told to contact hotelclick as i had prepaid and any part refund had to come from them. this response summed up my stay, no customer service or responsibility taken just pass the blame to the booking agent. will not be staying again1

One of londons nicest hotels?

I was informed that this hotel was nice and comfortable, that was the main reason for staying there whilst on business in london, unfortunately the recommendation was a bit off. although the communal areas of the hotel are nice the room which we stayed in was far from attractive. it was small and dark, the bad was positioned against the window which i must add was single glased and had a major draft coming from it. the only ood point was that the room had air con. which could come in handy in the summer, unfortunately for us it decided to turn itself on at random points during the night. there was a maid service that came and changed the towels and made the bed eacg day but after our first night she didn't actually clean the tea cups that we had used, instead she just moved them onto the table and eft them there for our return that evening. i know that my next stay in london will be spent in a different hotel for sure.
