Exterior
Fougères is a fortified site since Roman times, crossing the roads between Bayeux from Rennes and Chartres to Carhaix. At the end of the 10th century the castle was erected and became soon one of the main strongholds of the Duchy of Brittany, repeatedly besieged, destroyed and rebuilt between the 11th and 15th century. Today is offering a complete panorama of military architecture.
