Comfortable beds and amazing views!

This hotel is comfortable with clean and spacious rooms. i stayed in two different room types, a land-facing standard - which was bigger than average with a minibar and choice of bath or shower - and a superior double seaview room on the 4th floor - which had these features plus a fabulous vista of the bay from its balcony. there was plenty of hot water and functioning wifi. the only small problem occured when the aircon stopped working in the night a few times, but this was quickly remedied by a call to reception. all staff were friendly and helpful; as i'm late riser i didn't sample breakfast, but i did call into the relevant area one day and everything looked appetizing. the hotel is in a fairly quiet and refined area. it is situated on a hill (hence the beautiful panorama), but if you're not driving and are not feeling energetic, can easily be reached via public transport: take metro line 2 to piazza amadeo, then turn sharp left out of the entrance and catch a c27 bus up the hill, getting off at the 5th or 6th stop. all in all, great value and with some great views from front-facing rooms!

A good traditional hotel

The britannique is a comfortable, traditional, old-style hotel. it is located on high ground a little way out of the heart of the city - approx 30 mniutes stroll. our double room was comfortable, a good size, and had an exellent bathroom, though the furnishings were relatively old. the view of the bay of naples and vesuvius from our front balcony was wonderful. the buffet breakfast was excellent. the secure, private car park was useful though a little ponderous to use. the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. the general ambiance is old-fashioned, with staff in traditional uniforms. this lends a formal atmosphere to the hotel which i suspect will not appeal to younger visitors. we judged our short stay in may to be excellent value.

Faded luxury going cheap

This hotel obviously used to be very grand. one next door is a five star luxury. but this old palace has past its best! location is very good perched on the hillside with only a 5 minute walk down private stairs to the seafront or top end stores. the view from our room was amazing, unrestricted views of naples centre, the beach & sea. everything in the room worked ok but it has been a long time since its last re-fit. breakfast was ok but nothing special. receptionist was the most helpful i have ever come across (& i have stayed in many a 5 star hotel) every time we picked up our keys there was a new booklet or guide to a naples sight waiting for us in our mailbox! at 50 gbp a night this place could be considered a bit of a bargain - if you are willing to accept tatty & climbing a few steps - however i would go for one nearer dante next trip as that in my view is the best area of naples.
