Ottima posizione

Camere rumorose, colazione migliorabile

Le camere sono rumorose per via della metro. la colazione è nella media.

Best location

Excellent location, very varied breakfasts, great service, standard rooms are very small but this is offset by the service and the price

Nothing special

Poor service from reception and they never smiled pretty miserable to be honest. the 5th floor was noisy could hear the traffic from midnight until 3am :( only booked this one based on the other reviews - what a disappointment. would not go back there other hotels in the area of better service and value

Superb hotel, great location

I stayed at hotel galles with my son for two nights on 29th and 30th october 2011. on arrival we were informed that the floor that our twin room was on had an electrical fault so they gave us adjoining single rooms on the second floor with an offer to move us the next day. we didn't mind this change (in fact it was a bonus) and both rooms were perfectly adequate for our needs, apart from the omission of a refreshment tray. we had tickets for the inter milan vs juventus match, which had been delivered to the hotel two days prior to our arrival. there are two very different marco's working on reception so for the purposes of this review i will call the guy who works upto 11.30pm 'good marco'. 'good marco' emailed me to confirm delivery of the tickets and immediately handed me the envelope on our arrival. 'good marco' also gave me all the travel info we needed to get us to san siro. he was friendly, polite and efficient. in fact he was a perfect ambassador for the hotel and for the best western brand - even though he is an ac milan fan!! when we got back from the match (after midnight) i enquired at the reception about the missing refreshment tray but as it was after 11.30pm 'good marco' had gone home and was replaced by (for the purposes of this review) 'bad marco'. 'bad marco' is the overnight receptionist from 11.30pm and he very impolitely informed me that we could not have a kettle because the restaurant was shut. this is contrary to the information in the guest handbook in the room where it states that kettles are available from reception 24 hours a day. 'bad marco' directed us to a drinks machine in the lobby where i was charged 1.5 euros for the smallest cup of hot chocolate i have ever seen. what infuriated me most was bad marco's 'couldn't care less attitude'. he totally failed to represent the best western brand and has let down all his colleagues hard work through his appalling lack of customer focused service. he didn't even say no in a friendly way, just a shrug of the shoulders and "come back tomorrow" as if to say it's not my problem. alexandros, the manager on duty the next day, made his sincere apologies for 'bad marco' and immediately arranged for a refreshment tray to be taken up to one of our rooms. i am pleased to say that this one bad experience was the only fault i could find with this hotel. the location is superb. our rooms on the second floor faced the courtyard at the back and so we didn't experience any traffic noise and i didn't hear the subway at all, which is something that had been mentioned in other reviews. as others have stated, the breakfast buffet is superb and there is surely plenty of choice for even the fussiest eaters. the subway is an excellent and easy way to get around milan and the metro station lima is directly under the hotel so it couldn't be handier. if shopping is your thing then you will love the main street (corso buenos aires) that hotel galles sits on the corner of. if you are heading into the centre of milan you could take a pleasant walk down the main shopping street to the next subway station (p.ta venezia) and then it's just 3 stops on the red line to doumo. we got a 48 hour pass (8.25 euros) on the subway so that was all our transport paid for in one go. we used the subway to get all over milan including our trip out to the san siro stadium and to the main station (centrale fs) where the airport transfer buses depart from. there are only 4 lines on the milan subway so navigation is really very easy and it felt very safe. you can download a pdf of the subway map from http://www.atm-mi.it/en/viaggiaconnoi/pages/schemaretemetro.aspx. if you are going to a football match or event at san siro then you need to get the red m1 subway line to lotto (i believe there is a plan in development for a subway line direct to the stadium). make sure you get on the right train heading to rho fiera as the red line splits at pagano and the other train on this line takes you towards bisceglie. from lotto the local operator atm puts on free buses to shuttle you to the stadium or if the weather is good it is about a 15 minute walk. you have to be an italian resident to buy tickets for football matches direct but you can do as i did and buy your tickets from websites like seatwave. you need to supply your passport details for the transfer of the tickets and don't forget to take your passport with you to the match because the stewards needs to check your id before you are allowed in! the san siro is absolutely massive (it holds 80,000+) so give yourself a good 20-30 minutes from getting through the turnstiles to finding your seat. stewards inside the ground are a bit few and far between so you are generally on your own finding your seats - good luck! i would also highly recommend going on the san siro stadium tour. it's limited on match days so check in advance (http://www.sansirotour.com/index-eng.html) but on every other day the tour starts at the san siro musuem every 20 minutes from 10am to 5pm. you access the museum and tour from gate (ingresso) 14. if you are walking from lotto you will see ingresso 1 with ingresso 2, 3 etc going anti-clockwise around the stadium. if you don't want to walk the whole way around the stadium then go down the service road to the left of ingresso 1 and follow the stadium boundary wall clockwise until you come to gate 14. the stadium tour is really good value for 12.50 euros (10 euros for under 18's). you get a backstage tour of the dressing rooms, interview areas etc and the guided tours are given in english. our trip to milan was great (apart from the fact that juventus beat inter). we certainly gope to do it again and we will definitely stay at hotel galles again. we might even bring my wife and daughter next time so that they can go shopping whilst we are at the football.
