Weekend break in dublin
Myself and my partner were in dublin for the day for a christening. we arrived saturday lunchtime, checked in and had lunch in the bar. my girlfriend had a caesar salad and i had a burger and chips - both very tasty and served promptly (fat chips too ...mmm!) we then made our way to the christeninmg, which the staff kindly arranged taxis for us. on our return later that evening the hotel was very hot. they had some issues with the air con, which meant we were very hot and didn't get the best nights sleep (engineers had attended site, fixed the problem but it broke again a little later - these things happen!) next morning we had a fantastic breakfast in the restaurant. there was a huge selection of fresh fruits, cheese and hams and a buffet style cooked breakfast. the room temperature was still an issue so we had our coffee in their patio garden whilst reading the papers - much cooler. the restaurant itself was stunning - albeit a little knocked and bruised. after 3 years of being open i think it could do with a little refreshing, but the service and food itself was first class. we went back to our rooms to pack and prepare to check out. one criticism we both had about the room was the lighting. the rooms were lovely and the low lighting worked fine in the evening but for applying make-up / shaving, the lighting was inadequate. when we went to check out the staff were very apologetic. the front of house manager took time out to chat with us personally, apologised for the heating, wrote off our lunch bill from the previous day and gave me her card so i could contact her directly for when we next visit dublin. this was a very generous gesture and totally unexpected. i cannot recall another hotel ever taking such a personal interest in their guests and it was really appreciated (many thanks jane!!!) i will certainly be calling her for my next visit!!
