Discover Seville

Seville is a town in the South-West of Spain. It is considered an icon of the Andalusian lifestyle, as its history, monuments and habits clearly show. Geographically speaking, it is also considered a crucial point linking Europe, Africa and America. For those who can move around it, lots of different landscapes can be admired within 200 km (124,27 mi), from natural parks in Sierra Norte and Hornachuelos to the coasts of Gibraltar, Malaga and the border to Portugal.

What to See in Seville

It is impossible to get bored in Seville. At daytime you need to keep your nose up, not to miss any part of the architectonic beauties of the medieval city as well as enjoying the landscape. At night, movida and the party atmosphere animate this fantastic Spanish inland city.

Easter time is a very fascinating time in Seville. During the Holy Week , streets are fill with processions leading to the cathedral, recalling the Passion of Christ.

You shouldn't either miss the Fiera de Abril, once a cattle sale and now an international tourist attraction of great interest where you could admire people in costumes, horses and corridas.

The ferris wheel from Prado de San Sebastian offers and incomparable view of Gothic, Romanesque, baroque and renaissance art, the witnesses of the different rules throughout the centuries. Some of the most important monuments, absolutely worth a visit, are the Cathedral (and the bell-tower known as La Giralda), Alcazar and the Archivo de Indias, all Unesco World Heritage. Inside the cathedral you will see the tomb of Columbus, engraved in a monumental sculpture by Arturo Melida.

You will also be vowed by the picturesque Barrio de Santa Cruz, the ceramic tiles and the fountains in Plaza de España, Casa de Pilatos and the Torre del Oro.

Old and new perfectly melt in this city. A few kilometers North of Seville you can see the Roman ruins of Italica, with its old theater, and in the centre of the city you can enjoy the Museo de Bellas Artes.
Last but not least, lovers of nature could choose among the natural parks a few kilometres away, like Doñan and the already mentioned Sierra park .

Climate

If you had the chance to visit the city according to the weather, the ideal time is autumn and spring, when climate is milder and the tourist flow is lower than in summer. Temperature in August may reach up to 35-40°C (95-104°F) and the large number of tourists (mainly young people, but also older ones) makes long lines in museums and in public places where wine is served and Flamenco shows are held. Winter is not cold at all, with an average temperature of 10-11°C (50-51,8°F) between December and February.

How to Reach Seville

The Andalusian city is very well linked with the rest of Spain and, thanks to its airport, with abroad. San Pablo airport and its offer of low cost flights is only 10 Km (6,21 mi) outside of the city. If you want to reach Seville by car you can rely on a great highway system. Santa Justa railway station also offers a wide range of fast trains. Leaving the city is easy: all you have to do is following the signs to the highways linking Seville to the other important Spanish cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Granada - Costa del Sol or Portugal. European tourists willing to reach Seville by car must drive a long way down South-West. As the desire to discover this city does not seem to have a limit, 2 bus station with international destinations were established.

How to Visit the City

Seville must be visited on foot at a quiet pace, stopping at the many spectator terraces or before a picturesque palace you can discover in one of the many narrow streets in the heart of the city. Its position on a flat surface led the city administration to facilitate bike rental spots, the ideal way to discover the city. Bicycles can also be brought in the underground.

The suburban transport system reaches the city and its outskirts. Those willing to use means of surface public transport can buy the Seville Card, allowing to freely use public transports.

Among the possible alternatives you may also consider renting a car (which you can easily find in rental agencies or at the airport). This way you will be completely autonomous and free to visit the entire Andalusia.
