Nice is one of the most important cities of the
French Riviera, located on the southern coast of
France, near the border with
Italy.
The city has always been one of the most attractive tourist resorts in the country, once regarded as a winter resort thanks to its temperate climate, and today considered the third tourist destination in France after
Paris and
Lyon.
Nice has always attracted many visitors, partly because of its proximity to other important places of the French Riviera such as
Monte Carlo and
Cannes, and also
Grasse, the city of perfumes.
The city is often seen as a luxury destination, but it has many different accomodations, ranging from from family-run hotels to 5-star hotel facilities, thus enabling you to find accommodation at lower prices.
Nice is overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and boasts beautiful beaches; the city has many places of interest to tourists, such as the famous
Promenade des Anglais, the scenic waterfront from which you can admire both the sea and the mountains that characterize the hinterland.
Another place of great interest is the
Old Town, which is the historic centre of Nice where you can linger at the flower market in Cours Saleya, admire the baroque
Cathedral of Sainte Réparate, and above all the beautiful
Chapel of Mercy, considered to be one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in the world.
Close to the Old Town is the
Castle Hill (on which you can find its ruins), where there is a public park from which you can enjoy magnificent views of Nice and its surroundings.
The city enriches its tourism and cultural heritage with many museums, some of which are particularly interesting. Among these we can mention for instance the
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which hosts artworks of the Nice school, of the artistic movements derived from it and of those that preceded it. It is also interesting the
Matisse Museum, where you can admire some works by the artist who lived in Nice from 1917 to 1954, and the
Jules Cheret Fine Arts Museum.
In the city there are two casinos, the
Ruhl Casino, located along the Promenade des Anglais, and the casino of the
Palais de la Méditerranée, a luxurious 5-star hotel also located on the Nice waterfront.
The city offers many tourist attractions related to natural wonders and even for entertainment , so it is an excellent destination not only in summer but throughout the year.
