Discover Copenhagen

Characterized by class and elegance, Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is among the cities that best represents Northern Europe. Located in the most Eastern part of the country, Copenhagen lies between the island of Selandia and Amager on the Strait of Öresund, across the sea from Malmö, to which is lined through the famous Öresund Bridge. The story of the city reveals its deep commercial and cultural attitude, with its harbour and its past and current pioneering environmental politics. Ecologically speaking, it can boast a number of ecological primacies. It was the first pedestrian historical centre in 1962, and its current project is to zero pollutions by 2025.

Places you cannot miss in town

There are many attractions you should not miss in Copenhagen. The Danish capital is a great cultural destination, offering both residents and tourists very efficient services. Located in the harbour area, the little mermaid statue is one of the most important attractions, one of the symbols of the Danish capital that must be absolutely seen. This famous statue was inspired by Andersen’s fairy tale and it a gift from the founder of the Carlsberg brewery in 1913.

Tivoli Gardens are another very important destination, one of the world’s first amusement parks featuring both attractions and a huge park where you could get lost for hours, fully enjoying every single moment. One of its best attractions is the rollercoaster, built in 1913 and still functioning.

One of the weirdest reasons to visit Copenhagen is the chance to visit Christiania, once a military area that was turned into a free tax zone in 1971. This place is sort of a parallel universe full of small shops, clubs, home of a thousand people with a unique, free way of life.

Those who love shopping will surely appreciate a walk along Stroget, the most important pedestrian street in town with lots of tourist shops, Magasin and Illum malls as well as high class shops with international brands. Here you can also find many bars, restaurants and clubs.

Located on the Slotsholmen island, amongst Copenhagen most important and mighty building is Christiansborg Palace, home of the legislative, executive and judiciary Danish powers.

If you are interested in painting, exhibitions and museums, the Statens Museum for Kunst is undoubtedly worth a visit, with its interesting collection of paintings from different times and masters like Rembrandt, Mantegna and Picasso. Statens Museum for Kunst can be visited for free.
