General

The three conference rooms are comfortable and unique due to the design and decorations executed by skilful Tuscan craftsmen. They can be prepared to host small art exhibitions, meetings and conferences, with an eye toward satisfying all the specific needs of each particular event. Staff is available to organise the layout of the conference rooms. Basic equipment, such as an overhead projector or easel pads and a sound system are available in all three conference rooms. Also, upon request, the most modern audiovisual system and secretarial services may be provided.

Location

Hotel Croce di Malta is located only a few steps from both the Arno River and the Santa Maria Novella railway station. The church of the same name makes up one of the corners of an ideal triangle of works of art linking Piazza Santa Maria Novella, the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza Duomo, all of which only a few minutes’ walk away. The San Lorenzo area is also nearby, with the famous Cappelle Medicee chapels, the Uffizi Art Museum and the Accademia Galleries. The location is perfect for those who wish to be close to the most prestigious boutiques, the banks of the Arno River and the main monuments without having to give up peace and quiet and comfort. Although located in a limited-traffic area, hotel guests can easily reach the hotel by car, and there is a reserved baggage loading/unloading area in front of the entrance. Moreover, it is one of the few hotels with a garden and pool in the city centre.

Lobby

The hotel encloses a lovely inner garden with pool, a small jewel rarely found in Florence’s centre. Set in old Florence just a few steps away from Santa Maria Novella, Hotel Croce di Malta is the ideal place to find rest after an intense workday, an important conference or a lengthy visit to Florentine monuments. The hotel is located in what up until the mid 1800’s was the old Suore della Carità (Sisters of Charity) convent, which offered hospitality to Florence’s “poor, virtuous maidens”. The convent was built on a pre-existing building from Roman times. Marble sculptures and reliefs date back from this period, as well as a splendid column decorated with an Ionic capital that can still be admired today in various areas of the hotel. Its structure is a harmonious fusion of Tuscan renaissance forms and contemporary architectural design. The rooms and interior decoration stem from essential, pure geometrical forms where the meticulous play of full and empty shapes creates a special, modern ambience.

Exterior

This is a traditional Italian Palazzo which reveals nothing about the interior of the building. The entrance to the hotels' much famed restaurant is right next to the main entrance to the hotel. The hotel is both a mixture of old and modern architecture. The furnishings are predominantly modern of a late seventies style. Overall, this hotel is definately one of the finest hotels in Florence.

Rooms

All 98 rooms are decorated according to the canons of classic elegance, where the furniture is the result of meticulous handcrafted workmanship and the hand-painted panels are reminiscent of Tuscan works of art from the 15th and 16th centuries. The rooms’ charm goes hand in hand with the comfort of the most modern, functional amenities such as satellite TV, mini-bar, direct-line telephone and fast connection to the Internet. Extremely functional, the bathrooms are tastefully and harmoniously decorated.

Restaurant

The restaurant is large, well lit, and serves excellent International and Italian cuisine. The breakfast room can be found behind the lobby area. In the summer months one may have breakfast outside in the hotel's own private garden which also contains the swimming pool.
