From there you can walk down Via de' Martelli which ends on the splendid Piazza del Duomo with the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Campanile, and the Baptistery of St. John. A riot of colored marble envelops the buildings, which are dominated by Brunelleschi's huge and unmistakable red dome. Take a break in one of the historic cafés (such as Gilli or Paszkowski) in Piazza della Repubblica, then it's time to go shopping along Via de' Calzaiuoli and Via de' Tornabuoni, the chicest streets in Florence, with store windows and show rooms featuring famous Italian and international designers (Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada, Cartier, Dior, Cavalli, etc.).
